light, sound and
a splash of edison
This class introduces students to basic concepts in light and sound. With hands-on, interactive labs students will learn about white light, the light spectrum, sound waves, and how light and sound move. Students will create their own spectroscopy scope, use water to create sound waves and bend light. We even use lasers to demonstrate the concept of pure light.
Thomas Edison makes an appearance in class with his many inventions that used sound and light. Students will have a chance to visit and work with our collection of genuine Edison Hot Point “appliances” and earlier historic collections. Using these pieces will help the students gain a better understanding on how far we have come with the gadgets we use every day.
