Construction Begins on Cade Museum
We are thrilled to report that Oelrich Construction has been working diligently these past four weeks to prepare our site. Work on the foundation has started and over the next few weeks, Oelrich will begin implementing the steel frame for the elevator tower. Keep an eye on Depot Park for more updates! |
Living Inventor Series
The Cade Museum's 2015/2016 Living Inventor Series came to a close on May 12 with a brief celebration and ceremony. Over the past three years, the LIS program has welcomed nearly 30 inventors into the Creativity Lab to lead interactive classes. In addition to meeting a living and breathing inventor, students get to discover the scientific principles that went into their invention. The vast majority of students who participated in LIS are part of Take Stock In Children, an organization that uses education to escape the cycle of poverty for deserving, low-income youth. Be sure to watch the video above to discover what the Living Inventor Series is all about. |
Summer Volunteers
We are excited to welcome our new and returning Summer Volunteers to the Cade Creativity Labs! Orientation was held on May 31, which gave our 30 volunteers a chance to meet one another and prepare for the upcoming summer. Students will aid our Program Director, Patty Lipka, with her camps, classes and programs over the next few months. Welcome to Team Cade, volunteers! Shark Tank, the Cade Way
The Association of Science-Technology Centers' Creativity Garden Mini-Grant allowed the Cade Museum to provide field trips, including bussing, for all fourth and fifth grade students from Metcalfe Elementary. These field trips supplemented their classroom instruction in a hands-on environment that promotes exploration, experimentation, and meets educational standards. In their final trips to the Cade Labs, students participated in their very own version of Shark Tank where they presented an invention and had to discuss funding, manufacturing and branding their product. Needless to say, we may see some of our Metcalfe students in future Cade Museum Prize rounds! |
Early Entrepreneurs
Our Early Entrepreneurs program brings together motivated high school students and gives them the opportunity to form their own start up company. The students will manage every aspect of their business, from product development, packaging and manufacturing to production, marketing and selling. This year, there will be two teams producing different products: lip balm/soap and the always-popular sidewalk chalk. The teams' final products will be on sale at the Gainesville Downtown Arts Festival in November. Kids Count Visit
Last week, our Program Director, Patty Lipka, brought a taste of the Cade to both Kids Count locations, an organization that provides a free after school program for students in low performing elementary schools. Students learned about light and hot/cold reactions, all while making their own sidewalk chalk and glow-in-the-dark putty. |
