Mary Strasburger Cade

Mary Strasburger Cade (June 29, 1929 – September 1, 2021) was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She attended the University of Texas in Austin and received a B.S. in Nursing in 1951. In 1952, while working in Texas Children’s Hospital, she met James Robert Cade “over a fractured liver.” The two married in 1953, and later lived in St. Louis and near New York City before settling in Gainesville, Florida in 1961, where Robert Cade was a professor and nephrology (kidney) specialist. The Cades raised six children and helped raise 20 grandchildren.
In 2004, Robert and Mary Cade established the Gloria Dei Foundation, which assists small charities who are promoting the common good in accordance with Christian principles. Mrs. Cade also has supported numerous organizations in the Gainesville area, including First Lutheran Church, House of Hope, Arbor House, University of Florida Medical Guild, and many others.
Mary Martha Strasburger Cade passed away in Gainesville on September 1, 2021 from complications related to the Coronavirus.
