The Cade Museum for Creativity and Invention is proud to work closely with the Gainesville Housing Authority on bringing impactful, inspiring STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) activities to the communities.
Programming includes hosting STEAM programming for children in the community makerspace at Lake Terrace and facilitating weekly creativity and technology sessions for children at alternating GHA communities. Partial funding provided through GHA HUD grant. If you would like to sponsor this impactful program, please contact Senior Director of Development, Jody Farmer, at jfarmer@cademuseum.org. Your support is needed and appreciated. |
Alachua County Schools
2nd-5th Grades This multi-year program provides an intensive educational experience to prevent students from falling behind in STEAM. Each Wednesday, students from three low-letter schools in Alachua County come to the Cade Museum on a field trip. The Cade Museum tailors interactive, hands-on sessions that follow the schools' Sequence of Learning, to bring to life concepts the students are learning in the classroom. The Cade has received a federal grant to continue the program, but we need matching funds of $164,000 to make it possible. Please consider supporting this vital resource. Contact Jody Farmer, Senior Director of Development, at jfarmer@cademuseum.org to find out more. |
Take Stock in Children seeks to give high-potential, low-income underrepresented students the resources they needed to graduate from middle and high school, go to college, achieve degree attainment, and succeed in their careers.
The Cade Museum offers Take Stock in Children participants the Living Inventor Series (LIS). LIS Introduces students to world class inventors and science concepts aligning with their invention. This program, which brings science to life through personal stories, takes place once-a-month on Wednesday evenings during the school year (October-April) at the Cade Museum. Dinner is provided to participants. When students attend LIS, they receive credits towards the Take Stock program, which helps them receive scholarships for college. |

The Cade Museum partners with Junior Achievement to bring in JA Biztown, a program that combines in-class learning with a day-long visit to a simulated town. This popular learning experience allows elementary school students to operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, and vote for mayor. Students are able to connect the dots between what they learn in school and the real world.
The Cade Museum hosts the simulated town for JA BizTown. |
Each week, the Cade Museum brings Cade in the Classroom experiences to the Southwest Advocacy Group's family resource center. The Cade provides activities for grades 3-8. We rotate topics, focusing on a different aspect of STEAM each week with hands-on activities and experiments and take-homes. In July 2022, we will be hosting our first summer camp with SWAG.
“The SWAG Board is always looking for ways to bring in new resources and opportunities to the kids and families we serve at the SWAG Family Resource Center. The CADE program offers exactly that – a way to expose kids to science and math in a way that makes learning fun and inspires them to think about the world around them in new and exciting ways. We hope that this kind of programing will help our kids see all of the possibilities that are out there for them!” -- Dorothy Thomas, SWAG Board Member |
