Cade Museum Highlights Ways to Donate on Giving Tuesday ![]()
Gainesville, FL, December 1, 2020 – The Cade Museum, where children and adults receive unprecedented access to world-class inventors, entrepreneurs, and visionaries, is celebrating Giving Tuesday, a global generosity movement. The Cade supports families from low-income, underserved neighborhoods and underwrites programming to help children envision a more innovative future.
“The Cade supports the community by underwriting free museum memberships for low-income families, providing scholarships to Cade Camps, and ensuring equal access to science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) learning. Cade supporters also help underwrite a broad range of community programs that provide STEAM-learning experiences at the Gainesville Housing Authority, YMCA, and Alachua Schools. Donations to The Cade during Giving Tuesday help continue these crucial programs,” said Stephanie Bailes, President & Executive Director. In addition to a one-time gift on Giving Tuesday, there are other ways to support the Cade Museum, including a sustaining membership, major gift, legacy planned gift, donated stock & vehicles, and more! The Cade Museum is a non-profit 501(c)(3), so donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law. All of these crucial gifts help the museum open its doors to the entire community, provide life-changing experiences and generate a lifelong interest in STEAM careers. Gainesville, FL, Jul 2, 2020 – The Cade Museum’s new exhibit and theme, Moon to Mars, will launch July 3rd. Micro exhibits throughout the building will help to educate guests on space and space travel.
Space-themed activities will also be found in the Fab Lab and the Creativity Lab. These activities will encourage guests to learn more about what it takes to colonize the moon and travel to Mars, as well as the solutions inventors are discovering to make this a reality.
One of the most exciting parts of the space theme will be the connection between the Cade Museum and the International Space Station.
ISS Above, an electronic device that brings the space station to you, will show guests when the station is heading over Gainesville as well as provide interesting information about that space station. The connection will also allow for story time from space, where guests can get a story time experience with team members from the space station.
Currently, members on the space station include: Antatoly Ivanishin, Ivan Vagner, Chris Cassidy, Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley. To learn more about the astronauts aboard the space station click the link below:

The Cade Museum to Debut Ice-Skating Rink and The Science of Cool on July 3rd
Weekly Theme Nights Add to the Unique Summer Skate Experience
Gainesville, FL June 22, 2020 – The Cade Museum for Creativity and Invention will open a synthetic ice-skating rink in the building’s rotunda on July 3rd. This skating rink dovetails with the museum’s summer celebration of cool inventions. Air conditioning, refrigeration, and artificial ice aren’t just modern conveniences, it's life-changing technology that has enabled cities to grow in places where they couldn’t exist before. Visitors will learn how Florida-based inventors, like John Gorrie and Khanh Din, have played pivotal roles in all things “cool!”
Museum guests can reserve a skating time upon entering the museum, and the cost of skating is included with museum admission. Adults and children ages five and up can skate using real, Cade-supplied ice skates and younger children will have the option of sock skating. Skating hours will initially be Fridays and Saturdays, from Noon to 4:45 pm, and the skating rink will remain at the museum through August 23rd. Space for each session is limited.
Each Thursday, the museum will also host themed evening skating parties, beginning with a Cade Member preview space-themed skating party on July 2nd. A superhero-themed evening skating party will be hosted for the public on July 9th. Advance registration is required for themed skating parties, which cost $5 for guests, and $3 for Cade Members. Learn more and register for a themed skating party today at CadeMuseum.org/Calendar.
“We are thrilled to offer this unique experience to guests of the museum,” said Stephanie Bailes, Executive Director of The Cade Museum. “In addition to fostering a spirit of purposeful creativity and providing one-of-a-kind summer memories through this fun and engaging activity we are celebrating world-changing inventions from Florida,” she added.
Funding for the skating rink comes from The Cade's Nature and Culture Destination Enhancement Grant, awarded by the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners, in conjunction with Visit Gainesville, Alachua County. “According to research from Americans for the Arts, cultural non-profits attract travelers and are good for tourism, support the local economy, and make the community a better place to live,” said Tourism Manager Jessica Hurov. “The Cade Museum’s adaptive plan to create new experiences in response to programmatic changes due to COVID-19 exemplifies profound resiliency as our community works together to support Alachua County’s tourism-generating cultural institutions, and we are proud to assist in their efforts.”
In addition to this new, exciting activity at the museum, the Cade will be open for general admission on Fridays and Saturdays from Noon to 5 pm, and Thursdays for group visits.
The Cade will also launch a new museum-wide theme on July 3rd, Space: Moon to Mars. For more information on visiting the Cade, upcoming exhibits and hours of operation, please visit CadeMuseum.org

The Cade Museum Re-Opens June 5th
Visitors will enjoy The Cade through guided experiential tours

Gainesville, Florida, May 28, 2020 – The Cade Museum for Creativity and Invention will reopen on Friday, June 5th, with a re-envisioned Cade Museum experience. Since guest safety and enjoyment remain our top priorities, The Cade will initially be open on Fridays and Saturdays for limited-capacity experiential tours. A talented team of Cade educators will lead tours, and tickets can be purchased at CadeMuseum.org (free for Cade Members - advance registration recommended).
“More than 50,000 parents and children have continued to interact with the museum, during its closure, through our “Cade at Home” online learning platform, and we are thrilled to reopen our doors to the entire community,” said Stephanie Bailes, Executive Director of the Cade Museum.
In addition to maintaining current social distancing standards, our goal is to provide the most engaging Cade Museum experience within an environment that exceeds safety standards. The Cade Museum celebrates invention and is proud to partner with Violet Defense, Orlando-based creators of patented, ultraviolet disinfectant devices that eliminate up to 99.9% of bacteria and viruses. “We are excited to be partnering with The Cade Museum to help protect their guests and staff. It is our mission to leverage our technology to help protect people against germs in all of the places they live, work, play, and learn every day,” said Terrance Berland, CEO of Violet Defense.
Bolstering the strict cleaning protocols already in place, Violet Defense’s mobile ultraviolet disinfection units - currently utilized in hospitals - will be used before and after each guided tour. This added layer of protection allows guests to experience our Sweat Solution exhibit, Fab Lab, Creativity Lab, Gallery West, and Petty Family Gallery with the knowledge that this state-of-the-art technology brings a clinical-level of disinfection into the museum.
“We have missed everyone and look forward to seeing everyone again. Reopening the Cade feels like a victory for the entire community that we love to serve. We are excited to see inventors of all ages reconnect with STEAM learning at the museum on June 5th and beyond,” Bailes added.
